Commision Process.

  • 1. Contact Me.

You can contact me by using the form on the contact page on my website or the email address, Facebook or Instagram. I will aim to reply within 24 hours.

At first you may be just enquiring about a pet portrait. E.g. How long is my waiting list? What is the price for a portrait of your dog, cat, horse or other animals? Etc. You may have custom requests and want to see if they are possible.

If you have some photos at this point to show me, that’s great, however, you don’t need to wait until you have some photos before contacting me. I will answer any questions you may have and give guidance.

If you do not yet have your reference photo available but would still like to commission a portrait, that is not a problem. A deposit will confirm your booking and reserve a place on the waiting list.

  • 2. Sending me your photos.

The final pet portrait relies upon a clear detailed reference photo, therefore, it is vital that you take the time to achieve this. Please refer to my photo guidance for tips. It is important to remember that in most cases, I do not get to meet your furry friend, so I rely heavily on this photograph. It is your chance to capture their personality.

I work from one main photograph for the portrait of your pet. Other photographs of your pet are welcome too but are not essential, as this will give me a better idea of your pet’s character and colouring.

If you are having more than one pet in the portrait, it is best to take separate photos of each pet for the detailed reference image as it is easier to concentrate on one at a time.

It would also be advantageous to have a photo of all pets together, if this is possible, so that I can gage scale in relation to each other. This photo doesn’t need to be highly detailed.

  • 3. Paying the deposit.

At the time of booking your pet portrait, a deposit is due to reserve your slot on the waiting list. If you do not have your reference photos at the time of booking, this is not a problem, but will give you peace of mind to know that your place is reserved, then you can focus on taking your reference photographs.

The deposit is 25% of the cost of the portrait for a coloured pencil drawing or 50% for a painted portrait. Please refer to my Terms and Conditions. This can be paid by bank transfer, or by PayPal. Overseas clients can pay in their local currency using PayPal.

I would need to see your photos a couple of weeks before I am due to start your commission just in case they are not clear enough and I need you to take some more.

  • 4. Starting your pet portrait.

Once the time has come for me to start your pet portrait I will email you to let you know I am about to start. I take work in progress photos of my artwork as I go, so if you would like me to email some work in progress photos as I work let me know. Some clients like to see how their painting is progressing.

Photographs of my work will only be added to my website and social media pages once complete, and a date given by the client as to when I can post as I wouldn’t want to ruin any gift giving surprises.

  • 5. Final payment.

Upon completion of your pet portrait, I will email you a photograph of it for your approval. Only once you have approved the portrait will I ask for the final payment. Payment must be made before I ship the painting. Bank transfers are instant in most cases.

  • 6. Packing and sending your portrait.

Your portrait will be shipped to the address supplied once funds have cleared. I take every care to ensure that the artwork is well packaged so that it remains safe and protected during its journey to you. They are sent tracked, insured and signed for.
